HydX provides components, equipment and high technical expertise

Engineering company Geotech AB faced a considerable challenge when new, stricter regulatory requirements changed market conditions. They needed to develop an entirely new application to take the next step in the green transition. They did so together with HydX.

"HydX plays an essential role in the chain, contributing components, equipment and high technical expertise," says Henric Annelund, Head of Drilling Rigs and Field Equipment at Geotech.

Developing greener applications

Engineering company Geotech AB manufactures drilling rigs for geotechnical soil investigations on both the national and international markets. The company operates extensively in Norway, where the tightening of legal requirements in connection with the green transition has necessitated a redesign of drilling rigs previously powered exclusively by diesel, which have needed a new design.

To continue operating in the Norwegian market, we needed to make a change, reduce our carbon footprint and move to a more fossil-free operation.

Therefore, Geotech needed to develop a new application, a hybrid drilling rig that can also be powered by electricity, and to do so, the company needed an innovative partner with technical excellence.

It turned to HydX, a company it has been working with for more than fifteen years, which has the technical know-how to be not only a component supplier but also a strong contributor to the development of more fossil-free applications of the future.

Together, Geotech and HydX have developed the next generation of hybrid drilling rigs. Geotech is now equipped to meet new requirements from both customers and authorities.

Opening up to take new market share

The green transition has significantly impacted the market in which Geotech operates, and HydX has been heavily involved in developing a hybrid solution that enables drilling rigs to operate fossil-free, thereby giving Geotech a strong position in a sector that increasingly stringent regulatory requirements have transformed.

We appreciate HydX's broad technical knowledge and expertise. They are quick to respond, help us find solutions to the challenges we face, and are on top of what is happening in the hydraulics industry.

HydX is an expert in hydraulics and electrics, while its customers are experts in their fields. Together, the two companies have created a solution that not only meets the expectations and needs of customers but also the requirements of end users and the increasingly stringent conditions imposed by the authorities, and opens up new market shares in the context of change.

Looking at the customer's options

The hybrid rig project lasted about a year. Throughout this period, HydX played a significant role, not only as a component supplier but also as a sounding board in the design of the entire rig. Together, they have developed the next generation of drilling rigs.
"HydX contributed significantly with their high technical expertise, assistance with problems, and they were also involved in the design work. "They present industry news and open our eyes to the possibilities we have as customers. We really appreciate that," says Henric Annelund.

About Geotech Engineering

EnginEngineering company Geotech AB manufactures drilling rigs for geotechnical ground investigations and has customers all over the world. The company's customers use the application when planning for the construction of buildings, tunnels or roads.
The company works extensively in Norway, where the green transition has led to considerable changes. Previously, the drilling rigs used diesel power exclusively, but as sustainability requirements have increased, Geotech needed to adjust its applications to meet the new, stricter regulatory requirements.
