Customised lubrication units

We collaborated with the customer to develop a standard range of lubrication units, customised to their needs for each specific project. For the project in Australia, the units were adapted to prevailing conditions, local regulations, and the requirements of the end customer.

HydX systems compete on the world market

HydX in Ystad has built a 14-metre-long lubrication system in Ystad and delivered it to the Thunderbox gold mine in Australia.

Metso develops tailor-made solutions to optimise mine operations. Their technology enables minimising downtime and streamlining operations to exceed operational targets – placing high demands on suppliers and requiring expertise, innovation and availability to ensure those goals are met.

Customised lubrication systems

Metso, headquartered in Finland, has been cooperating with HydX for many years and has, together with HydX, developed a lubrication system for mining mills for hydrostatic bearings. The system is available in several different sizes designed explicitly for Metso's mills, from a load of about 5MN to over 40MN.

"It's great that we can deliver systems that can compete on the world market."

From Ystad to the Australian outback

The 14-metre system was to be built and tested in Ystad before being shipped across the oceans to Australia, and then continuing the journey on a 50-metre truck.

"It is the largest type of unit we have worked with so far in terms of size, and the lubrication system took up our entire test run capacity," says Viktor Johansson Rix.

“It’s an exciting challenge to build something this big here in Ystad, destined to be installed on the other side of the world and designed to cope with the demanding conditions the system will face. It feels good to have such strong confidence from the customer.”

Tough challenges and significant pressures

Nine months after the order was received in Ystad, and less than four months after the mine mill lubrication system was completed in Sweden, it was delivered to Thunderbox Gold Mine in Western Australia. The shipment travelled by sea from Scandinavia to Australia and was unloaded there, before continuing with a 50-metre-long truck, a so-called 'road train', mostly on gravel roads.

"This places great demands on us; we have to make sure that the lubrication system can cope with all the challenges that exist during transport, where there may not be constructed roads. We have to prepare so that our delivery can withstand that kind of stress without being damaged," explains Viktor Johansson.
